Molly, Indigo Jones & Alex

This is one of my favorite pictures. It is old. Molly turned 20 today.
I saw "Sex and the City " yesterday, "Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull"last week. They were both ok, like visiting old friends, which is fine with me.
Also, today is my(our?) wedding anniversary. We went to Outback and Gerten's greenhouse, which is fine with me, too.
Cassidy's cd release party is tonight but I think we'll pass on that.
Good times.

Frog Prince

This will be a princess and a frog. I hope it turns out ok.
Someone wants to use my Circle of Life statue in an article for an Israeli magazine. I sent the pictures. I may never know if it's published.
Scott McClellan came out with a book criticizing President Bush. I remember feeling sorry for him when he did press conferences. He always looked sweaty, scared and unhappy. Now I know why.

Spoonbridge and Cherry

Spoonbridge and Cherry by Claes Oldenberg turned twenty this month. It has pretty much turned into the symbol of Minneapolis. Along with a lot of other people, I really like it.
Big, whimsical, just there.
Lovely.

Fishing Fish

The Angler fish is one ugly creature. I want to make a statue using this basic fish style. Those pointy teeth could pose a problem. I'll have to think about that.

Concertina

This will be a sailor with a concertina. Do sailors still wear the white sailor suit? I didn't see many on the internet. Several years ago they discontinued them, then brought them back. Maybe they changed their minds again. Should the Navy keep it just because it's just so gosh darned cute? Heck, yeah!

Geranium

I see that representatives from Disney festival of the Masters came to Belleville to see how they could improve their sales. I haven't been to Belleville's, but I used to go to Disney's. Disney has a problem that can't be fixed. Generally speaking, Disney tourists aren't interested in buying anything that isn't mouse-related. The Disney Village, where the art show is located, switched years ago from a variety of interesting shops to all Disney all the time(mostly)
I've met a couple of women here in Minnesota who seem to be obsessed with Disney. They go every year and they wear sweatshirts with Disney characters on them.
I lived in Orlando for years and the local people tend to disdain anything to do with Disney even if they work for them. The area is saturated with art shows. Hard to make a buck.
Wish I could have gone to Belleville's.

Millefiori

Here is an example of millefiori, which is Italian for"thousand flowers". I make a design running lengthwise through the clay. I shrink it by gently squeezing the tube. It's really cool because I can slice thin pieces and make multiple images. Yesterday I used it to make a dress for my doll statue. It's often used for jewelry in clay. Sometimes it's called caning.
I have a porcelain vase that I bought several years ago at an art show. It's made by Jane Peiser. She uses tinted clay for her millefiori. I looked on the internet and she is still making wonderful pieces using the same technique.
Right now I'm making poodles to put in the bowl.

Jackalope Snipe Hunting

Last night we entertained three men from Greece. They were very pleasant. They gave me a huge hanging geranium so I gave them statues. One of the men was mystified by the jackalope head I have hanging in the kitchen. No jackalopes in Greece I suppose. I gave him this statue. One offered his second home on the Mediterranean for us to stay in. That would be nice if we could afford to go.

Monkeys

I made a monkey yesterday but I didn't like him. I'll probably keep the one on the left. Last week I remade Humpty Dumpty. Heck, I could just go through all of my pieces and remake them. There are things about all of them I wish I had done better. I now have over a hundred statues. I haven't sold many. I'll try not to think about that. The weather is too beautiful.

Violets

Violets are blooming and the birds have flown back home. Maybe it's spring.

MSI

I am working on a girl guitar player. She is based on Lyn-z who I saw at First Ave. She looked just like a Girl On Bass should . I'm having trouble because I started out wanting her to look cartoony but I tend to get into too much unnecessary detail. I'll sleep on it and maybe tomorrow the right feel will come to me. If not, she will never see the light of day.
Kathy, if you read this, I tried to comment on your blog but it didn't print. I'm doing something wrong. I only partially know how to use the @#$%*! internet. Hope your dog is okay.

The Annunciation

On Saturday Alex, John, Tontie and I went to the Minneapolis art museum. I had a great time.
This is one of my favorite paintings because I think it's a hoot. "The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary and she conceived of the Holy Ghost"
That's from a prayer I learned. This painting takes that quite literally. God, at the top lets go with the Holy Ghost who looks like he will drill the baby ahead of him into the unsuspecting Mary. Ouch!
This tiny picture doesn't do it justice. You can hardly tell it's a baby here. That's the beauty of museums. Every brushstroke is right there to see.

Screaming Mechanical Brain

This is Cassidy and his band getting ready to go on tour. They enjoy the road. Cassidy is holding Flat Stanley. He would be mangled, crumpled ripped Stanley if he went along.
I didn't sculpt today.
