Halloween

Cassidy wanted Truman to be Alf for Halloween. I'd call this a minimalist abstract costume. Truman hates costume stuff as much as he hates having his picture taken. I had a dog,Indigo Jones, who wasn't very good at a lot of things, but he seemed to love wearing costumes and having his picture taken. Go figure.

And a Gargoyle

When I was a girl at the Cathedral school the nuns would take us down to the crypt under the Cathedral church on Halloween. Here is a picture of the gate that leads to it. We went down a winding stone stairway. There were sarcophagi along the walls containing the remains of past bishops. It was wonderfully creepy, better than a haunted house.
I revisited the crypt a few years ago. Still scary. That is what Halloween is about. Love it.

Paddle Ball

Here is another rat. He is almost done. I've spent a lot of time reading Harlan Coben. His books are hard to put down. I saw something that looked awfully like snow falling yesterday. Damn!

Skel-A-Flamingos

It's almost Halloween. I love it. I put these flamingos from Barb by the front door. I hope they don't get swiped. I made a couple of miniatures for friends.

Cat's Paw

Here is a cat having the upper hand with a dog.
I once had a dog who went after a cat. The cat scratched him on the nose and it bled. After that he would never acknowledge a cat. It's as if they didn't exist.
I came across a document on the internet that was a statement by my great-great grandmother. She said that her maiden name was Margaret Coleman and that she came by boat from Ireland. I knew that I was Irish from my mother's side but I wasn't sure of my dad's. The internet is just packed with goodies.

Now

The fabulous autumn leaf show is almost over. This weekend we will start to rake the dead leaves. I am sad. I took this picture out of my bedroom window yesterday. Isn't it beautiful? I'm reminded of a line from something something from when I was in school. A famous quote said that," A thing of beauty is a joy forever." I've always had a problem with that. A lot of things that are beautiful don't last. I really try to appreciate fall and it's colorful beauty because I didn't when I was young. I always thought of bleak, cold, dead winter.

Enough of that.
These are "Speak no evil, see no evil , and hear no evil" I was wondering about "Do no evil", which seemed like the logical next thing. There is one for that,I looked it up,
but you don't hear much about it.
There are things I
don't like about them which I won't mention.

Dear Diary,
WTF

Fall

Autumn in Minneapolis is heartbreakingly beautiful. The last farmers market and the brief changing of the leaves brings to mind the swift passage of time. I kept telling myself today," Notice this and wallow in it's gorgeousness, it's temporary. "
Well, not temporary, but that's it for this year. I'm not a hanging around in the snow kind of person.
It was an excellent day.

10/08/08

Jim's back in the hospital. He'll be okay. I'll probably bring him home tomorrow.
One bright spot came when a nurse passed through and took blood from him. His name tag said"Igor". He had a heavy Eastern European accent. I was mesmerized. I knew it would be rude to comment on his name and accent. He's certainly heard about it a million times.
Igor had taken blood from Jim before so all we had to do was look at one another and try not to laugh.
I thought of Peter Lorre. I looked it up. Igor has turned into the Lorre-like sinister character, but Lorre never was called Igor.

Rhubarb

Last night I got to do something I've wanted to do since we moved here. We went to the annual "Prairie Home Companion" street dance in St. Paul. The weather was perfect. It's often cold this time of year. Not last night, when the music was sweet, The biscuits were flaky, and Garrison Keillor was just like you thought he would be.
I loved it.

He is Us

I'm trying to make an elephant and a donkey. I'm having real trouble with the donkey. I realize that I've never made a horselike creature that I remember.
Oh, wait, there was that unicorn. Damn! Better forgotten.
How can something simple be so hard?
I've noticed that my work has shown up on some blogs.
That makes me unreasonably happy.
Jim's right hand isn't doing what he wants it to do. I told him that it reminded me of"Dr. "Strangelove".
Nothing worthwhile is easy.
